The Raven Book of the Month Subscription Program

The Raven Book Store is delighted to introduce our Book of the Month subscription program! This program is flexible to both your tastes in reading and your level of commitment (no judgments here). We currently facilitate seven different subscriptions, in both 6 month and 12 month plans:

  • New & Notable Fiction: the hardcovers everyone's talking about ($150 for 6 months; $300 for 12 months)
  • Under the Radar Fiction: paperback originals or books you missed in hardcover ($90 for 6 months; $180 for 12 months)
  • Fiction In Translation: the best paperbacks from overseas ($90 for 6 months; $180 for 12 months)
  • Mystery: series launch or stand-alone sleuthy paperbacks ($90 for 6 months; $180 for 12 months)
  • Science Fiction: paperbacks from the thrilling future, either stand-alone or first-in-a-series ($90 for 6 months; $180 for 12 months)
  • Poetry: the best and most diverse from the world of verse ($90 for 6 months; $180 for 12 months)
  • Current Events Nonfiction: hardcovers to explain what's happening in our world ($150 for 6 months; $300 for 12 months)

We also curate three Kids' Books of the Month subscriptions:

  • Board Books: Books for toddlers to read or chew on ($45 for 6 months; $90 for 12 months)
  • Picture Books: the most beautiful and diverse hardcovers ($90 for 6 months; $180 for 12 months)
  • Middle Readers: great reads for the book-hungry 8-12 year old ($60 for 6 months; $120 for 12 months)

The basics of how it works are pretty simple:

  1. Select the subscription you're interested in.
  2. Select the length you want for your subscription.
  3. Call the Raven at (785) 749-3300 and ask to subscribe. One of our employees will fill out a subscription plan for you with all the necessary info (name, address, payment information, etc.).
  4. Receive a new book in the mail every month.
  5. Read the book, of course.

Subscription programs can also be bought in someone else's name, if you're thinking of getting one as a gift for someone! You can also elect to have your book shipped to your address or set for pick-up at the Raven. Shipping is free with the price of the subscription program, so it would not cost extra to send to your house. We do not have subscriptions available for purchase online, so if you want to sign up for a subscription plan, you'll need to call us or visit us in store. Luckily, we can take it from there.

If you have any further questions about our subscription program, please feel free to call us at (785) 749-3300 or email us at

Not Here is a flight plan for escape and a map for navigating home; a queer Vietnamese American body in confrontation with whiteness, trauma, family, and nostalgia; and a big beating heart of a book. Nguyen's poems ache with loneliness and desire and the giddy terrors of allowing yourself to hope for love, and revel in moments of connection achieved.
