Holiday Big Tent: Cindy Hoedel, Dee McElhattan, and Randy Michael Signor
National award-winning journalist Cindy Hoedel worked at the Kansas City Star for 20 years. She was best known for magazine stories, profiles and commentary about her transition from Kansas City to a tiny town on the Kansas prairie, where she still lives, writes, grows food and keeps chickens.
dee mcelhattan is a poet from the west side of chicago. she is a graduate student, a dog mama, an aquarius, and very frazzled, full stop. she teaches a composition class at the university of kansas that centers around narratives of resistance and reclamation. her work has been published by internet poetry, voicemail poems, aegir, and bluestockings among others. dee’s poetry revolves around femininity and power--sometimes drug-induced, sometimes angry, but always sincere and overly-sentimental. you can find her on facebook at dee mac, where she adds friends with reckless abandon.
Randy Michael Signor grew up in Kansas and lived for a while in Osawatomie. He has taught writing at the high school and college levels, and has worked as an editor for the Los Angeles Reader, Book Magazine, and others. His short fiction has appeared in numerous publications, and he has been the recipient of several fellowships, grants, and awards. He is married to Jane Levine and they live in Seattle.
