Bryn Greenwood Book Release Party

Bryn Greenwood will read from her latest book, The Reckless Oath We Made. The Raven Book Store will sell copies of her work, and there will be a signing after her talk.

When Zee Trego meets Gentry Frank at physical therapy, she simply wants a ride home. But the young man, who calls her “Lady Zhorzha,” wants to be her protector in the manner of a knight in shining armor. At almost six-feet tall with a redhead’s temper and shattered hip, Zee is nobody’s idea of a princess. She manages to deflect his eccentric intentions—until one night when her already messed-up life reaches a crisis point. Her sister, who volunteers with inmates at the local penitentiary, is taken hostage by two white supremacists during a prison break. Zee is left alone to deal with her young nephew and her reclusive hoarder mother—a tall order for a young woman who can barely manage her own life. She reluctantly turns to Gentry for the help he has long been offering, setting in motion a chain of events that will not only change both of their lives, but bind them to one another forever.

Bryn Greenwood’s latest novel brings together many disparate threads about which she can speak from a personal level: chronic pain and the drug use associated with it, debt and poverty, dysfunctional families, hearing voices, autism and the struggle to be heard, hoarding, prison reform, and white supremacism. With her singular talent, Greenwood manages to convert these grim realities of life into a magical narrative that locates its power in her characters’ unabashed imperfections and fundamental humanity.
