That Old Flame of Mine by J.J. Cook
I picked this up on a whim and was thoroughly engrossed. Firefighter Stella Griffin is hired to reorganize the volunteer fire department in Sweet Pepper, Tennessee in the heart of Smoky Mountain country. She encounters arson, unknown familial ties, a pepper festival, and a ghost! The story reminds me a bit of The Ghost and Mrs. Muir, as her resident ghost advisor—the former fire chief—helps to solve a decades-old murder. The book ends with a cliff-hanger, so be prepared to go out for book #2. Oh, yes, there are also yummy pepper recipes! Recommended by Sarah.
