In light of the two months holidays, this Big Tent is a combined event for November and December. Tonight's bill includes Charlotte Davis, and poets, Kale Humphrey and Stephen Meats.
Stephen Meats is a native Kansan, born in LeRoy and raised in Concordia.He attended Kansas State University (1962-1965) before transferring to the University of South Carolina, where he earned his bachelor’s (1966), master’s (1968), and doctoral degrees in English (1972). He taught at the Air Force Academy (1968-1972) and the University of Tampa (1972-1979) before coming to Pittsburg State University in 1979, where he is currently Professor of English. Meats has published one book of poems, Looking for the Pale Eagle (1993), and a mixed genre book of poems and stories, Dark Dove Descending and Other Parables (2013).
Davis graduated from KU with a BA in Creative Writing this spring and spent this fall interning at Scholastic. She will (in theory) pursue her MFA next year. Charlotte hopes to one day write for kids so she can keep pretending to be one herself.
Humphrey is a Lawrence resident, working on his Master's in Mathematics at Emporia State University. He migrates there daily to teach. His work has appeared in Blue Island Review, 3by3by3, Stone Highway Review. He has two children, 3 and 5 yrs.
